BE A BIG SISTER

> Plan on giving her plenty of one-on-one time with Daddy.

Your toddler still needs parental attention, especially if the age difference between the two is small.

> Stagger the timing of major changes.
Timing is everything, but it’s important not to overwhelm your toddler. When planning the nursery or having a baby shower, make changes to the home gradually, throughout the pregnancy, so your toddler can adapt a little at a time. This lets her know she isn’t being replaced.

> Buy a few special toys.
Make your toddler feel extra special at this transitional time. Your newborn is being celebrated, but that doesn’t mean your toddler should feel left out.

> Show the benefits of being a big kid.
Introduce your toddler to activities that are separate from the new baby. This will let her know she has a new role filled with different things that her new sibling can’t do yet.
