April Madigan

Owner and Founder, Boutiquing

April Madigan is an entrepreneur and mom of two kids, ages 18 months and 4 years. She is also the founder of Boutiquing.com, a Web site dedicated to supporting local boutiques and creating shopping events four times per year.
   
Madigan divides her time working at the office three days a week and works from home the remaining two.
   
“My greatest joy is when my daughter asks me how my day was in ‘the boutiques,’ says Madigan. “I love that she has her own creative understanding of what Mom does.”
   
“I am also excited to share with my kids an entrepreneurial spirit,” she continues. “My husband and I both own our own businesses and work as a team to find balance in our family life.”
   
She says it’s challenging to switch hats on non-office days.
   
“On my workdays, there is an hour and a half in which I pick up the kids, let the dogs out, make dinner. … It involves multitasking, and I collapse when my husband walks in the door.”

April’s tip: “Find a support system for yourself and your family. Finding the right balance in outside commitments is also important.”
