Pam De Jong Placentia Marketing Manager, CHOC Children's Hospital
Pam
De Jong is used to being around children, and now with two girls in
diapers (8 months and 22 months), she is getting hands-on practice. She
is also an OC Family mom blogger; her blog is called Mom is a
Four-Letter Word.
“I’ve been the marketing manager at CHOC
Children’s Hospital for the past five years,” says De Jong. “I do a ton
of clinical and consumer writing, print collateral and Web content.”
“I
can’t be everything to everyone, and that’s okay with me. I am a mom
first and a career gal second. Luckily, I have an awesome boss, a
flexible employer and an understanding husband.”
De Jong has
a strategy for making sure she stays focused: “I try to think about
only the next five minutes,” she says. “For example, I get up at 5 a.m.
and give the little one a bottle. I just enjoy the quiet time with my
baby. Then, I get in the shower. Then, it’s getting everyone fed,
dressed and so on. To look at the big picture is too overwhelming. It
helps me just to enjoy the time that I do spend with my girls.” choc.org
Pam’s tip: “Don’t worry about work when you are at home, and don’t worry about home when you are at work.”
