Mother of four Residence: Newport Beach Founder, Pre K Scholars LLC prekscholars.com Launched business: January 2009 Pre K Scholars provides preschool curriculum and home- based business/teaching opportunities for stay-at-home moms, retired teachers and child caregivers. The Pre K Scholars 22-week program was designed as a simple and inexpensive way for parents and teachers to prepare children ages 4 to 5 for kindergarten, using fun and flexible lessons that are proven to work.     Parents and teachers teach children letters, sounds, words, math, science, social studies, writing and so much more at a level that’s age-appropriate and specifically designed to be creative and fun while promoting kindergarten readiness. Q: Where did you get the idea? I am a former kindergarten and 2nd-grade teacher who retired to raise a family. When my first child approached kindergarten age, I was concerned that there were some missing pieces in her preparation and knew that children who started behind frequently stayed behind. This spurred me to develop a series of lessons on what I regard as the key elements for kindergarten success.     At first I just taught the materials to children of friends, but the word spread and I soon found myself teaching classes in my home.  I realized that other moms and retired teachers could easily replicate my success if I were to package the curriculum. Q: How long did it take from idea to marketplace? Working in conjunction with an award-winning team of artists, educators, designers and other professionals, it took about one year to create the curriculum and bring course materials to a market standard.
