Q: What has been your biggest mistake? Not knowing how and when to advertise. This has cost us a lot of money, not having a targeted strategy and not understanding what it takes to run a successful advertising campaign.
Q: What was your “Ah-ha!” moment – the moment you knew you had something special? It’s every time I get a letter or e-mail from a mom telling me how much she appreciates me for inventing a product that has helped her so much through the first few months of her baby’s life. One card on my desk says, “I think this is the best invention for a nursing mother, especially when you have more than one child to keep up with.” It really warms my heart that I’m making a difference in people’s lives.
Q: What resources did you use to get your business going? SCORE (Service Corp of Retired Executives) really helped me out a lot. They still do. They offer workshops – some even free – about business, marketing and technology. They even offer free one-on-one counseling. That really helped with packaging design and creating a business plan.
