As holiday lights twinkle and the weather dips to chilly temperatures, many Southern Californians are in anticipation of one very special day. An event to celebrate heroism and storytelling at its finest. Christmas is magical but with the release of “Start Wars: the Force Awakens” this week, Star Wars-mania is likely to takeover the typically holiday buzz.

One of Orange County’s shopping Mecca’s The Irvine Spectrum is getting into both the holiday and Star Wars spirit with the addition of The RiDE 7D, located next to the Ferris Wheel. The entire shopfront has been embellished with Storm Troopers and the everyone’s favorite villain, Darth Vador.

Through Feb. 18th, The RiDE is hosting a limited edition Alien Asteroid ride. Players are placed in a space patrol fleet with the mission to protect Earth. Asteroids come flying as riders point and shoot. After the ride, each rider is awarded a score. The best shooter of each week will win a life size Storm Trooper.

The RiDE 7D places riders in front of an over-sized screen to create a completely immersive experience. Similar to Star Tours or the Buzz Light Year rides at Disneyland, The RiDE 7D transports riders to a different world. Each rider wears 3D glasses and is equipped with a laser gun as the seat rumbles and shakes along with the screen. The Alien Asteroid ride is 5 minutes and costs $12 per person, per ride. Other rides are between 8-12 minutes.
