Step 5: Loosely fold in the punched corners of each triangle so all five holes line up (tip: Fold two opposite corners first). Attach the straw by placing a split pin through the holes of the paper and straw. Turn over and fold the split pin into a T shape. If you press the ends flat, the pinwheels will not spin. If you want them to spin easily – rather than having them simply for decoration – buy pinwheel spinning attachments.

Procedure

Step 1: Cut the scrapbooking paper into a square using the craft blade and steel rule. I made mine in various sizes, from 5.5 inches to 8.5 inches.

Step 2: Lightly draw diagonal lines from corner to corner across the paper square to form four triangles. Cut along the lines, stopping about a half-inch from the center.

Step 3: Punch a hole in the center of the sheet where the lines cross. If the paper tears you can repair it with tape. Punch a hole in the right corner of each triangle flap.

Step 4: Pinch together one end of a straw and punch a hole a quarter-inch from that end.
