IRVINE – Donning Santa Claus hats, Irvine police officers on Thursday delivered gifts and the holiday spirit to children in a domestic violence emergency shelter.

Officers shopped for presents on the wish lists of the children at a Target on Barranca Parkway before handing them out at a holiday dinner at the department headquarters.

For 11 years, the Irvine Police Department has been partnering with Human Options and Team Kids to host the Shop with a Cop program. This year’s event helped about 25 families in Human Option’s shelter and transitional living programs, according to an organizer.
