Create art just for you and your sweetheart by placing buttons on canvas to say, ‘I love you,’ on Valentine’s Day or any day of the year.

Materials

• 16-by-20-inch canvas

• Ruler

• Pencil

• Painters tape

• Black spray paint

• 14-inch-square piece of cardboard

• Red buttons in various shades and sizes

• Glue

• Black marker

• Sawtooth hanger set

• Hammer

Directions

Step 1: Create stripes by using the ruler and pencil to divide the canvas from top to bottom into eight 2 1/2-inch-deep sections. Use painters tape to mask every other section (those will be the white stripes).

Step 2: Spray paint the unmasked sections of canvas with light and even coats. Let dry, then remove the painters tape.

Step 3: Fold cardboard in half and draw a 7-inch half-heart along the folded edge. Cut heart out and place it on the canvas. Lightly trace the outline with the pencil.

Step 4: Glue the buttons inside the heart until the shape is filled in. Pay close attention to your edges. Let dry.

Step 5: With a marker, write your and your sweetheart’s name or any special message. You may want to practice on paper before writing on the canvas.

Step 6: Attach the sawtooth hanger to the back of the canvas, using the hammer.
