Why buy a wreath when you can make one at home? This bright and colorful DIY project lets you design a piece that suits your style. Easy enough for the whole family to craft together, this Mason jar wreath can be altered throughout the year to adapt to any holiday.

Materials

• 56 Mason jar lid bands (12-pack for $2.21 at Walmart)

• Spray paint in three colors: red, white and green ($6.99-$7.99 each, Michaels)

• Washi tape in various patterns (prices vary at Michaels, JoAnn and Amazon)

• Glue (optional)

• 18-inch-long floral stem wire, 20-gauge (12-pack for $3.99 at Hobby Lobby)

• Ribbon or tulle (prices vary)

• Bow (optional)

Steps

1. Sort and paint. Divide your bands into stacks. Paint 8 red, 8 green and 32 white (leave original color on the rest). For the transparent washi tape, it’s best to use the white bands. You may need to apply two coats of paint. Let dry.

2. Decorate. Wrap the washi tape around some of the bands. You may need to glue down the ends depending on the tape.

3. Shape. Twist the floral stem wires together to create an open circle the size you would like your wreath to be.

4. Connect. Like beading, string the bands in a random pattern on the wire. Once all the bands are on, bring both wire ends together and twist them to close. Thread the ribbon through the bands. Cinch the ribbon tight and create a large slip knot (this is what you will use to hang your ribbon). Decorate with a bow.
