Yesterday, my family and I participated in the Orange County Down Syndrome Association's "Buddy Walk" at Angels Stadium. Recently I reconnected with an old friend Scott through Facebook. He and his wife Kari have a daughter, Sadie, who was born with Down Syndrome. When Scott told me about the Buddy Walk, I signed up my family to join their team--Sadie's Supercrew. We had a blast partaking in the food and games, running the bases on the field, walking round the stadium, and then watching a live performance by The English Beat. That's right, THE ENGLISH BEAT! You can watch this video of them signing "Twist and Crawl." They still sound great, no? I had to have my husband take the camera because I couldn't hold still--had to dance. ******* Scott and I worked together at Kentucky Fried Chicken in Huntington Beach years (and years) ago. You can read my story about those days below. Warning: It contains a pretty gross confession regarding a lost band-aid and a KFC biscuit. You've been warned. "What was your first job? Mine was working at Kentucky Fried Chicken." |
