My Supermarket Theory

The Pelican Hill Spa: Replenish. Invigorate. Relax.

Replenish, Invigorate, Relax .

Those are the precepts of The Spa at Pelican Hill.  When you make your appointment at the spa they determine, through questions and which treatments you choose, which of these three beauties you are seeking.  As a working mom of two...um...sign me up for all three!

I spent one glorious day as a guest of Pelican Hill Resort. The Spa invited all of the OC Family mom bloggers to come and experience their resort first hand.  So  I got to hang with some of the most interesting, funny and warm women in Orange County and get pampered by the pros.

Leaving my car, which was littered with Ritz cracker wrappers and still embedded with bugs from my trip to Arizona (three weeks ago **bow** Thank you very much), with the valet revealed I'm not a "Real Housewives" kind of mom. "Sorry it's so dirty, but if you want a healthy snack, need a wet wipe,  or want to color, help yourself" I told the friendly valet.

You know what? Regardless of how swanky, fancy and downright stunning Pelican Hill Resort is, I never felt "out of my league" or like Elly May from The Beverly Hillbillies. Everyone at Pelican Hill was warm and welcoming. I felt comfortable and right at home sipping cucumber water next to the Zen fountain in the waiting room.

I so belong there.

About the treatments.  I requested a massage and was ushered into my room by Glen.  I chatted away until I finally admitted I have Massagolepsy--I fall asleep the moment a massage begins.  He knew the condition and assured me it was just fine to take a nap.  As a mom, naps are the pinnacle of self-imposed guilt, but I felt free to snooze away while Glen worked out the little stress wars going on in my body. (Thanks Glen!)

All the mommies jumped in their ginormous Jacuzzi after our treatments where the discussion turned to "Would you ever let anyone breast feed your kid?" and then to, of course, "What's you favorite app."  Then it was off to a light lunch and more talk of technology, the flu that's going around and butternut squash.  Your garden variety modern day mom-talk.

Here's the thing about The Spa that will make less likely to hate me and more likely to get out your calendar and make plans to go yourself: anyone can go to The Spa at Pelican Hill and use their facilities all (freakin') day long, you don't have to be a guest at the resort. There is no resort fee.

So let's say you choose the Amber Gold Signature Massage package.  You pay for the package and you then stay at Pelican Hill all day: lounge in the spa's Jacuzzi or sauna, use the pool (Random: World's largest circular pool), eat lunch at The Coliseum, it's all there for you.  If you need a sitter for your kids (4-12 years old), no problem, $65 gets them into Camp Pelican for the day.

So where I'm going with this?  For the price of a massage and your regular babysitter you can have a day like mine at Pelican Hill...and you don't even have to clean your car out!

I'm your mother -- take me next time too! Please. Actually, I'll make an appointment myself -- you convinced me! Thanks. Love ya!

I fully intend to take advantage of the facilities again in the near future. I am saving up my pennies for that Amber gold massage and then I will milk that jacuzzi and relaxation room for all they're worth!

Loved my two days of dinning with the highly opinionated OC Family mom bloggers. Great team you have assembled. Funny, insightful and brutally honest. Love the feed back.

$65 for a babysitter? Really? I guess I better be more grateful I live near both sets of grandparents. We'd never have a night out on our own.
